About Us

Building has been in our family for at least 4 generations with techniques and knowledge passed down covering all aspects of Building for over 90 years. From large Site contracts to Domestic repair work. We have completed thousands of jobs covering the South West of the UK.

My name is Mike and I am proud to be the father of three Sons and one Daughter, Steven, Darren, Jonathon and Patricia, all of which have contributed a lot of time and effort into Carter and Sons. I must mention my wonderful wife Mary who has supported me in every way since we were in our teens, Mary is a truly good Mum and Wife.

My Grandfather, Stanley Carter was a builder from Somerset. Stanley established his business in the 1920s in Essex. After his service in the second world war he took part in the re-building of London. Stanley’s son Brian, my father, went on to play a different role in the Building trade. Through the 60s and 70s, Brian went on to be one of the largest and most respected Contractors in Essex. My father, Brian took on huge contracts and it taught me to not be afraid of anything that falls within my skill sets. Luckily, I was allowed to work on my Fathers building sites from a very early age and I had the privilege of working alongside some of the best professional tradesmen that were available. Throughout the late 70s I was schooled by my father on how to look after his business on a day to day basis. When my father, Brian took semi-retirement and I was allowed to run the Family business and expand into General Building. Our move from Essex to Cornwall was in 1988. Still a young man with a young family. The move was good for both the business and the family.

We currently operate from Helston in Cornwall – We are able and very happy to work within a 30 mile radius.

We have also completed numerous works in Devon over past 15 years or so.
